A couple of weeks ago I introduced a few notions on the news photos category. As a recap, a news is an information about a recent event. Across cultures an event is newsworthy if it is interesting for a public, a large number of people; it has an higher impact on them, if it happens nearby; if it involves well-known people and diverge from the everyday happenings.
Starting from here, I would like to show you images that are used in the media to illustrate stories. These examples, will give you a few guidelines and ideas to create Photo and video illustration.
Let’s begin with this week most recent headlines.
1. “The World Health Organization reports that consumption of red and processed meats increases cancer risks.” This news has provoked quite a lot of stir, especially among meat lovers. Many media outlets has depicted the story with a picture of cold cuts, steaks on a grill or sizzling sausages were published next to huge number of articles. You can guess that the media focus will shift on subjects linked to the general effects, like expected sales to drops off . Think ahead and send stock images of supermarkets, farms, cows, butcher shops, fresh meat local market; also there will a requests for photos of organic food manufactures and the industry of food processing.
2. “China ends decades long policy, restricting families to have only one child. Couples will be allowed to have two children.” Send in images of Asian families, toddlers and babies; hospitals, surgeries and nursery schools; doctors and nurses holding baby born; the side effects will be an increased interest in population numbers, age, pensioners, energy resource and food reserves.
