Warsaw, Centrum Nauki Kopernik metro station, 11 p.m., no one around. Escalator looks like an element of a starship from sci-fi movies.
Hello Valeriia, thank you for joining the interview.
How did you start with mobile photography?
It began three years ago when I bought a new mobile phone. I wanted to try the camera and started to shoot the world around me. I took different pictures of friends, city sights, animals, nature and other stuff. At one moment I understood that mobile photography is not only a good way to save moments and memories, but to express myself too.
Prague zoo. I don’t like zoo because of its unnatural habitat for animals. But in this place I was wondering how comfortable was for animals to live there.
What model of smartphone do you use?
I take photos with a Nokia Lumia 1020 because of a good camera. And it has been working fine for three years. His grandpa 3310 would be proud:)
What does inspire your works?
I take inspiration from walking in the forest or visiting new places where I can turn off my brain, don’t think about daily routine and just look at beautiful creations of human or nature, learning something new. Everyday exercises are also a good way for rebooting my brain too.
It was a cold, windy, but sunny day at the Lithuanian part of Curonian Spit. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A very beautiful, peaceful place. I feel serenity when hiking there.
How do you describe your style?
Hmm…that’s an interesting question. I can tell that it’s not my cup of tea to abstract object. I like showing space and give full view.
Sopot, Poland. I woke up early morning for jogging and saw it. Visually, the photo is divided into three pieces and I could highlight the key points on guys with beard and cats.
What are your favorite subjects and what’s your favorite genre of photography? (Street ph., portraits, travel ph., etc.) In your portfolio, there are many pictures of nature and landscape. Are they your favorite genres?
Yes, I can tell that I’m a nature lover. I like visiting new places, so I can tell that my genre is travel and landscape photography. Sometimes I take photos of airsoft games, because it’s interesting for me to capture whole specter of emotions during the game and it’s some kind of candid photography.
What is the process behind your images and how do you post produce your content?
Unfortunately not all mobile applications are available for windows phones. I usually use Fotor for exposure, contrast and color adjustments.
It’s a bridge to Zalgirio arena in Kaunas (Lithuania). My friends and me were going to the Apocalyptica show, when that lamps around the bridge, which gave an interesting perspective, drew my attention.
Do you have any specific project in mind now?
Yeah, I want to try myself in portrait photography of my teammates.
Thank you very much Valeriia! Keep shooting and we’ll be happy to see your new pictures of nature and portraits.
